Keeping your kids healthy and yourself healthy can be a task, especially when your kids are in school and the number of germs they come in contact with multiples before your eyes. Recently the FDA banned 19 ingredients commonly found in antibacterial soaps and washes including two suspected endocrine disruptors linked to reproductive and developmental harm. With the new ruling combined with the back to school season, Kneaded Relief wanted to provide you with an alternative way to protect yourself and kids without using the antibacterial soaps out there.
Young Living Thieves Essential Oil is a combination of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus radiata and rosemary essential oils. The name was inspired by the legend of four 15th century French thieves who formulated a special aromatic combination composed of clove, rosemary and other botanicals to use to protect themselves from disease while robbing the dead and dying. Thieves oil can be used in a variety of ways to help protect your family’s health and it also keeps all of the harsh chemicals out of the body as well.
How to Use:
Topical: Dilute 1 drop with 4 drops of olive oil. Test on small area of skin on underside of arm. Apply to desired area as needed.
Aromatic: Diffuse up to 10 minutes 3 times daily to help create a fresh environment
Refresh musty carpets by adding 5 drops of Thieves to a cup of baking soda; combine well and let sit overnight until the oil is absorbed. Sprinkle over carpets and vacuum thoroughly.
Put a few drops in your dishwater or dishwasher to thoroughly clean dishes and eliminate odor.
Put a few drops of Thieves in a capsule and swallow with water to support your immune system.
When using Thieves oil with children Young Living gives the following information:
We suggest consulting a health care provider to determine what is right for your children. We recommend referring to the individual label directions for any age restrictions as well. Essential oils should be diluted for use on children. We suggest using a patch test procedure prior to ensure the oil is properly diluted for the child. To perform a patch test, apply 1-2 drops of essential oil to a patch of skin such as the forearm.
To safeguard the health of your children, the essential oils should not be diffused in their immediate proximity or for long periods of time without the prior consent of a pediatric physician. We also suggest diffusing a small amount of essential oil for short periods of time until you have determined if your children have any sensitivity to diffusing.
Every child is different and may react differently. Typically, sensitivity to diffusing essential oils is demonstrated by irritated or itchy eyes, nose and/or throat. The child may cough, have a runny nose or rub their eyes and nose frequently. Your child’s pediatrician may be able to offer you specific advice for their needs.
Every time Summer rolls around SPF becomes a topic of conversation, and it is quite possible that you are over hearing about it, but Kneaded Relief wanted to inform you on a few things that you might not have thought about that will only be of a benefit for you this Summer season.
SPF products expire: You are probably saying to yourself right now, “I know that”, but did you know that some SPF products do not carry an expiration date on them? If there is no date, the food and drug administration mandates that the SPF product retain its full strength for 3 years. So if you purchase an SPF with no expiration date on it write the date of purchase on the bottle, or if you have a SPF product currently in your cabinet with no date, and you can’t remember when it was purchased, our suggestion would be to throw it out and start with something fresh.
Your bottle should state, “Broad Spectrum”: There are many SPF products out there but not all are created equal. You might have an SPF of 50 sunscreen but if it does not list the term “Broad Spectrum” on it then it is not protecting you from both UVA and UVB rays. Most products today are Broad Spectrum, but be careful when it comes to moisturizers and make-up that includes SPF. The 3 SPF face products that Kneaded Relief currently carries through Bioelements are all Broad Spectrum (Sun Diffusing Protector SPF 15, RayDefense SPF 30, and SPF 50 Facescreen).
You don’t need direct sunlight to cause skin damage: Do you drive a distance to work everyday? Does your office have a large window in it? If you answered yes to either of these questions, you might be exposing your skin to the sun and damaging it without even knowing. UV rays can be transmitted through the glass, so though you are inside you might be exposing your skin to UV rays all day long.
Summer should not be the only time you wear sunscreen: Again this is probably something you are familiar with, but unfortunately we tend to only start throwing on the sunscreen when the weather gets warm. To truly protect your skin, a sunscreen should be worn year round, and it should be applied to all exposed areas (lips, ears, back of neck, face, hands, etc).
Hopefully this information helps you make some informed decisions regarding your at-home SPF wear. For more information on sunscreens and a personal recommendation, we suggest you sign up for a Complimentary Skin Consultation with one of our Estheticians.
Thankfully in this post the Dream Time that I am speaking off has nothing to do with actual sleep. The amount of sleep you receive at night and the part of time in which you dream is another whole post in itself. What this discussion is about is a product called Dream Time. For years Kneaded Relief has carried the Dream Time line of Shoulder Wraps, Body Wraps, Lumbar Wraps, Eye and Sinus Pillows and Sleep Masks.
They were well made products that incorporated Heat Therapy, Cold Therapy and Aromatherapy and came from Eastern medicine inspiration. The very sad news is this company has decided to no longer appeal to Small Businesses. Its spin off company Spa Comforts will now be taking the forefront and be marketed to solely large corporations (Target, Walmart, etc.). Dream Time was highly superior in quality and Spa Comforts is made for the masses. So why talk about this product now? Well Kneaded Relief has a small stock left of the Dream Time products and we want our guests to have the opportunity to receive this quality of a product before it goes completely away. We will be researching and looking for another company to takes it place because we do believe in all the benefits Dream Time offered and once we do find that company we will let you know. In the meantime, here is why Dream Time was so beneficial and what made it special. Please feel free to stop in while supplies last.
As Dream Time itself stated, “imagine a life where you move through your days with ease and grace – no resistance to your true nature of being well. You sleep easy, breathe easy and live easy. Dream Time’s products help temper the aches and pains that come with the stress and pressure of daily life and they help show you how to find that quiet place inside where calm prevails and harmony flows.”
Dream Time incorporated 3 types of therapy into their products.
Heat Therapy: a natural remedy that helps increase blood flow, relax tight, sore, achy muscles and reduce joint stiffness. Moist heat penetrates deeply and provides soothing comfort, allowing stress and tension to simply melt away.
Cold Therapy: naturally reduces swelling, helps alleviate aches and pains and is the time-tested treatment for sports injuries and relaxing muscle spasms. Cold therapy can bring your body back into balance and harmony and is a wonderful way to rejuvenate your spirit.
Aromatherapy: the use of aromatic plants to encourage good health and well-being has been practiced for thousands of years. The aromas from pure plant oils are truly holistic and can have a powerful and positive effect on the mind, body and spirit. Aromatherapy can help alleviate the various symptoms of stress to help you unwind and connect with your inner self.
The combination of these 3 elements in one’s lifestyle is a conscious decision to make a healthier lifestyle choice and a new approach to preventative health.
We do wish that this company was still afloat, but it is out of our hands. Stop in to our location to pick up a wonderful product that had too short of a life.
